A bright, private place
to think.
Daylume is a voice & text journal that's yours alone. Every entry is encrypted on your device with a key only you hold — no cloud, no account, no one else can read it.
“Most journaling apps promise privacy in a policy. The good ones prove it in the architecture — where the company can't read your entries even if it wanted to.”
A warm journal that keeps a real secret
Others make you choose between a lovely journaling experience and true privacy. Daylume is both.
You hold the key
A 24-word recovery phrase — like a crypto wallet — is the root of your encryption. Only you have it, and only you can ever restore your journal.
Zero-knowledge, 100% offline
Entries are encrypted on your device before they're ever stored. No servers, no account, nothing uploaded. There is nothing to leak.
Voice or text
Speak or write. Voice entries are transcribed on your device — the audio never leaves your phone, and it's encrypted at rest.
Duress PIN & decoy
Forced to unlock? A second PIN opens a believable decoy journal — with an optional silent wipe of the real one. No trace the real journal exists.
Yours to recover
Forget your PIN? Get a new phone? Your recovery phrase plus an encrypted backup restore everything — with no server in the loop.
Locked down by default
Fingerprint or face unlock, auto-lock the moment you leave the app, and excluded from phone backups. Private without any setup.
Three steps, then it's just journaling
Get your recovery phrase
On first launch Daylume generates 24 words — your master key. Write them down; they never leave the device.
Set a PIN & biometrics
Unlock day-to-day with a PIN or your fingerprint/face. Optionally add a duress PIN for a decoy journal.
Write or speak freely
Add text or voice entries, tags and moods. Everything is encrypted the instant you save it.
Honest about what it protects
- Entries sealed with XChaCha20-Poly1305; keys derived with Argon2id and BIP39 — standard, audited cryptography.
- The encryption key is derived from your secret and never uploaded. The developer literally cannot decrypt your journal.
- The duress feature stores no “this is a decoy” flag anywhere — the two journals are cryptographically indistinguishable.
Questions worth asking
What happens if I lose my recovery phrase? +
Then no one — including us — can recover your journal. That's the point of zero-knowledge: there is no backdoor, no “reset password” email, no company copy of your key. Store the 24 words somewhere safe and private.
Is my data really never uploaded? +
Correct. Daylume has no accounts and no servers for your entries. Everything lives encrypted on your device. Voice transcription runs on-device, so even your audio never leaves your phone.
How does the duress PIN work? +
You set a second PIN that opens a completely separate decoy journal. If someone forces you to unlock Daylume, you enter that PIN — they see an ordinary journal and never learn the real one exists. You can also enable a silent wipe of the real journal when the duress PIN is used.
What does it cost? +
Daylume is a one-time $5 purchase — pay once, own it forever. No subscriptions, no ads, no accounts, and no in-app purchases. Every feature, including the duress PIN and on-device voice, is included.
